What: Saturated chamomile tea, frozen in an ice cube mold

How:

  • Option 1: Steep lots of caffeine-free, pure chamomile tea leaves in hot water until it is very saturated (15 minutes or so). Let cool. Remove tea leaves and pour into ice cube tray and freeze. Once frozen, put frozen tea cubes in a mesh feeder (see photo) for the baby to gnaw on.
  • Option 2: Steep lots of caffeine-free, pure chamomile tea leaves in hot water until it is very saturated (15 minutes or so). Let cool. Remove tea leaves. Dip a small, clean washcloth into the tea until it has absorbed enough tea to make it totally wet. Place washcloth in freezer for an hour or so. Once the washcloth is frozen, give it to the baby to gnaw on.

What: Nature’s greatest medicine

Why: Breastmilk is incredible. It is tailor-made for your baby’s needs, and it is naturally anti-inflammatory. For most babies, breastfeeding is very comforting way to soothe teething pain. However, for some babies, the act of sucking might irritate their gums even further. Every baby is different, so just pay attention to how YOUR baby reacts to breastfeeding. If your baby seems irritated from breastfeeding, try rubbing his/her gums before and after each nursing session. The soft rubbing can help soothe the pain.
